New Story – Blanquitos
My most recent story, Blanquitos is out at Typebar Magazine. It's a story in the subgenre I'm calling TropiWeird - an offshoot of Weird Fiction that takes place in the more tropical latitudes, and that often deals with issues of colonialism. It's possibly my TropiWeirdest story yet, halfway between an urban legend and a riff on Arthur Machen's The White People. My story also got published on the same day last year when we realized our beloved old dog, Biz's health took a turn for the worse. So, just as this story was emerging, Biz was laying in her bed behind me. The odd little quirks of her personality gone, dulled by the pain. I was torn between the joy of getting Blanquitos on the page at last, and the fear that Biz might be dying and I just wasn't ready for that. What an accursed feeling that was. Before I...
